Try this delicious cream cheese alternative, made from our organic, cream-top A2A2 plain yogurt. It's so easy to make and much better for you!
Have you been looking for a healthier, local alternative to the cream cheese you see on the shelf of your grocery store -- which tastes just as good, if not better? We've found the perfect alternative for you. :)
We love to enjoy this cream cheese alternative with crackers, bagels, and any other item that you'd put cream cheese on. We made two flavours using Mrs Jones Jams (available at our farm store):
a sweet strawberry (using the Strawberry Vanilla jam by Mrs Jones Jams -- pictured on the left)
a spicy savoury (using the Apricot Habanero jelly by Mrs Jones Jams -- pictured below)
(Have fun experimenting with other jam flavours! Let us know if you find a jam that you think is incredible... or even jams for us to not try. ;)
To make this A2A2 cream cheese alternative, all you need is: a tub of our plain Promise Valley yogurt, a bowl, colander, cheesecloth, a spoon or whisk for mixing, and your choice of jam.
Once you've let the yogurt drain overnight, it only takes minutes to make, making it a great snack.
Instructions
1.In the fridge, drain yogurt overnight over cheesecloth in a large bowl.
2. Take yogurt out of the bowl with the cheesecloth, placing it into a colander. (Don't toss out the whey -- you can use this for baking and smoothies!)
3. Put the separated yogurt into a mixing bowl.
4. Add jam, and whisk jam and yogurt together until smooth.
5. Enjoy with crackers, bagels, or whatever you prefer.
6. Take a picture and share it with us on Instagram: @promisevalleyfarm!
There you have it...
We hope you enjoy this cream cheese alternative! Since our yogurt contains only the A2 beta-casein protein (also found in sheep or goat milk), it is perfect for those who find it difficult to digest conventional A1 milk.
Plus, our yogurts have no additives or preservatives, are low-temperature pasteurized (not homogenized), are single-sourced (only from our heritage Guernsey cows -- we don't source our milk from other farms) and are in plant-based packaging (no plastic!), which keeps you from being exposed to any harmful chemicals.
If you don't live on southern-mid Vancouver Island (Victoria to Qualicum Beach) where you can find our yogurts in several stores, we encourage you to read labels and research the brand of yogurt you buy to make sure that their values align with yours.
